Medford Clubhouse - Daphney Fortune
"Club
staff made me realize what life is about. They set high standards
because they want to see you succeed in life, and they want you to take
the right path that will guide you to success.”
Daphney
has long served as the heart and nurturing voice for family members
both young and old. She is selfless and great listener, skills that
manifests in her offering a nonjudgmental ear and advice to the best of
her ability to many of her family members. Since her family lives in
Haiti, Daphney makes it a point to check in and see if they are safe and
have enough to eat. Each month she contributes $20 of her pay check to
money her mother sends to relatives. Daphney is a student inside and out
of the classroom who volunteers for any chance to experience something
new or help her community. Daphney volunteered with the Medford Family
Network to support new Haitian immigrant families’ transitions to
American culture and learning of the English language. Over the past
four years Daphney has used the Medford Boys and Girls Club as a vehicle
to explore her individuality and interests as it relates to her
community. Since joining the Club in 2007, she has helped increase the
capacity of the Medford Clubhouse as a Junior Staff

Everett Clubhouse - Yazmine Akib
"The
Club has been my home away from home, and I truly believe that staff’s
efforts and support have made me want to push myself and further my
success.”
Yasmine has a high moral standard. Her dedication to her ideals encourages others to open their minds and commit to beliefs. Not only is she able to speak confidently, she is an active listener—a skill many teens have yet to master. As
a member of the Field Hockey, Basketball, and Tennis teams, as well as
captain of the Field Hockey team, Yasmine has excelled on the field. Off
the field Yasmine sets the example for her peers by working hard,
putting her best effort into her school work, and staying focused in the
classroom. Yasmine serves as a strong leader for her peers and sets the bar for them when it comes to being a good Club member.

Healey Clubhouse - Leonora Koney
"The
Club is like my second home because everyone is kind in their own way
either by their words or by their actions. To me the Club also
represents a place for me to go if I ever need to. I can always come
here to talk to staff if I have something on my mind and I need to get
it out."
Leonora
shows a devotion to the Club, her community, her school, and her peers.
She is the first person to uphold the rules of the Club and strives to
be an exemplary role model for younger members. She does her homework,
participates in activities, and gives other members the chance to excel,
and all the while she commits herself to improving her community. She
is always willing to participate in activities that help others. |

Cambridge Clubhouse - Jomari Maxwell "I have been coming to the Boys and Girls Club for over 5 years now, and I can’t
imagine what my life would be like without the Club in my neighborhood. The staff at the club is always willing to listen to what we have to say and have our best interest at heart.”
Jomari
exemplifies moral character and stands apart from his peers as a leader
and mentor for youth in the Cambridge community. He is always willing
to work with Club members struggling with their homework oftentimes
tutoring for four hours per day. Jomari helps mediate conflicts between
his peers both in and outside the Club. He has always been the voice of
reason when a negative situation occurs and is always willing to find a
solution. Jomari helped Club staff re-envision the teen program. His
professionalism has not only been an inspiration to staff, but many
community members have commented on his contributions to enhancing the
Club experience. |
