On Dec. 3, 2010, Cambridge Police Officer Oswaldo Ortiz and staff from
Cambridge Youth Centers and Boys & Girls Clubs of Middlesex County
brought several Cambridge youths to the Boston Garden to cheer on the
Celtics.
Made possible through the Dunkin’ Donuts KidZone program, the group was
able to have its picture taken with Celtics legend Cedric Maxwell and
cheer on the C’s as they beat the Chicago Bulls 104-92.
Initially created for the 2000-2001 season, the Dunkin’ Donuts KidZone
is a special seating section that hosts children from charitable
organizations at every Celtics’ home game. Dunkin’ Donuts provides the
group with complimentary tickets to the KidZone, as well as T-shirts,
the opportunity to sit courtside during pre-game shoot around and a
group photo on the famous parquet floor with a Celtics player. The
Dunkin’ Donuts KidZone is part of a broader community outreach
initiative of Dunkin’ Donuts that aims to host youth and charitable
organizations at local sporting events.
The mission of this program is to provide ticket accessibility to
children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend these
events. This multi-year campaign has also succeeded in promoting
volunteerism and community service across New England.
Ortiz plans to take another group of Cambridge teens to watch the Boston Bruins play in March.
